There was this one time, about six months into my editing job at WMC in Memphis, the pressure was on. Deadlines were flying. I turned to my chief editor and said, “Look, at a certain point, I’m slappin’ and smearin’!” — meaning, I was laying down whatever video I could find just so the anchor had something to read over.

Not ideal. But real.
